Coordinate Caliper

GPM Model 115    Price:  $2,329

Product Details

This instrument consists of a 30-cm long metal bar with millimeter graduations from 0-22 mm. At the zero point at one end a 5-cm long sharply pointed steel ruler is fitted at right angles. A second, identically constructed ruler is moved along the bar by means of the slide and can be held firmly in any position by a fixing screw. Between these two rulers there is a second slide with a vertical, adjustable steel ruler with millimeter graduations, which is sharpened on the lower side. Readings can be taken of how far away the point of the arm is from the line connecting the other two points. The coordinate arm has a division ranging from - 30 mm to + 50 mm.

Application: It is often used in craniology to determine the height or depth of a point relative to a track. The pointed ends of the steel rulers touch the boundary points of the track. The height or depth of a point to this so fixed distance is measured with the third, also sharpened steel ruler - the so-called coordinate arm - which is movable on a slide between the other two rulers along the metal rod and also perpendicular to this.
